I have two questions for you. Do you like dogs? Do you own a four-legged friend? If the answer to both questions is YES, then there will soon be an occasion to celebrate on 26 August - International Dog Day.
The holiday was established to draw attention to the role of dogs in society and their positive impact on human life.
The originator of the holiday was American animal rights activist Colleen Paige. She chose 26 August as International Dog Day in 2004 to celebrate her family's adoption of their first dog. Over time, American Dog Day has become World Dog Day and is celebrated by dog lovers in many countries.
International Dog Day is a good time to appreciate four-legged friends, but also a reminder of the challenges many of them face on a daily basis. Dogs have been an indispensable part of life for centuries, fulfilling many different roles - from watchdogs to guides for the blind to faithful companions.
Have you ever wondered how many dog breeds there are in the world, how many bones and teeth dogs have or whether they can see colours? Do you know what a guide dog's job is or what qualities a guide dog should have?
If you would like to find out the answers to these questions and learn more about dogs and guide dogs in particular, we have an invitation for you. Come to the WOMAI Center for Science and Senses on 26 and 27 August to celebrate International Dog Day. You will receive a 20% discount on the interactive exhibition "Into the darkness"! On a guided tour with a blind person, you will learn about his world. Tickets for purchase are available through our website, but remember - places are limited.
You are warmly welcome!
