Dlaczego stymulacja sensoryczna jest ważna dla dzieci? 04.02.23

Children have a sponge-like mind. For years, there has been talk of sensory integration classes in the context of better functioning of children. Does it really help? What exactly is their purpose?

Child and sensory integration

So let’s clear up any ambiguities, first specifying what sensory integration is. This concept dates back to the 1970s, when the psychologist Anna Jean Ayes created the theory of sensory integration. According to its assumptions, all sensory stimuli, i.e. sensory stimuli, are integrated by specific neurons. Specialized transmitters are designed to recognize, assign and accumulate stimuli with previous experiences.

This mechanism is called sensory integration and, when carried out correctly, it triggers an organism’s response adequate to the situation. There is only one problem … Man is not born with a shaped system of integration, but develops and improves it in the process of development. That is why it is so important to provide children with a variety of sensory stimuli that stimulate the nervous system to function. Special sensory classes meet these needs, both those organized independently by parents and those proposed by specialists.

Sensory stimulation – what is it?

Sensory classes should provide the body with stimuli that affect such spheres of functioning as touch, sight, hearing, smell, taste, as well as movement, balance and coordination.

Sensory integration – exercises

We provide sensual stimuli to children in everyday life, during ordinary activities. Even with lunch, bathing, playing with kinetic sand or manipulating toys, we develop sensory integration. However, if you want to stimulate the nervous system of a child even more, it is worth providing our children with the possibility of additional stimulation.

Taking this need into account, the unique WOMAI Center for Science and Senses was created.

How does WOMAI stimulate the sensors?

At the WOMAI Center, emphasis has been placed on providing visitors with a multi-sensory experience. The basis of the exhibition are separate zones of light and dark at two exhibitions, „towards the light” and „towards the dark”. By entering them, our guests not only nourish the senses of sight, but also activate other sensory receptors.

Children have the opportunity to confront darkness, where the most important sense is not sight, but hearing, touch and even smell. This is sensory stimulation in its purest form! We face various challenges in the world of darkness. Everything under the eye of a blind guide who will show how he perceives the world and to what extent he has developed other senses.

On the other hand, entering the light zone, we experience a world full of colors, sounds and scientific experiences. Here, our knowledge will be expanded by a scientist guide who will be happy to answer any question.

The WOMAI Science and Senses Center not only offers the possibility of sensory stimulation. It is more than that. Having fun in the world of the senses, which we will experience here, will inspire them to develop, and the extraordinary impressions after the exhibitions will stay with us for longer.
