Summary of the 2023 Year at WOMAI

Summary of the 2023 Year at WOMAI

The end of 2023 is approaching, and with it a time for reflection, summaries and ideas for 2024. It was a time full of challenges, but also successes that motivated further development. Every day and on holidays, the WOMAI Centre was open and new hearts appeared on the heart wall.
We would like to thank you for every visit, every smile, every opinion about the exhibitions, every collaboration - they gave us energy and reaffirmed that it was worth it:

  • to educate and make the public aware of the value of blind people,
  • inspire people to discover amazing scientific phenomena.

We would like to mention the most important events and developments.

We played once again with WOŚP during the 31. Finale in January. We had an engagement at the “Into the light” exhibition in February. We organised open days for teachers, as well as for companies and corporations. In June, a blind guide from the “Into the darkness” exhibition had a Jiu-Jitsu demonstration fight during the 6th Banzai Jiu-Jitsu tournament. In July, blind and sighted people from WOMAI rode tandems. In August, we organised a photo competition and spoke about our exhibitions on Polish Radio One. In November, the month of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, we educated about the extraordinary scientist, and in December we provided interesting facts about blind people.

We organised sensory workshops:

  • with the Krakowskie Biuro Festiwalowe (KBF) at the Potocki Palace, during the events Spring Good Morning ICE Krakow, Wreaths, Opening of the Wesoła District,
  • with NZS UEK during the Blind Book campaign,
  • in Lubawa at IKEA,
  • during the 3rd edition of the event Sensory and Serious,
  • with the IFMSA-Poland Kraków Południe Branch during the "Health under Control" preventive action,
  • with the AGH Main Library during the Library Night,
  • with the Neonatus Foundation on the occasion of World Prematurity Day,
  • with TEDxKazimierz we created an Escape room in the dark during the Hidden Heroes event.

Thank you all for supporting our mission.

We created the Old Florence pack together with the Obwarzanek Museum and Legends of Krakow, and also started a collaboration with Ciuciu Cukier Artist - Krakow. We started educational meetings with the Garda Foundation with a book about a blind boy from the Heroes Without Barriers series. In WOMAI, a painting and a music and poetry corner were created on the wall near the reception. We would like to mention one particular collaboration, which resulted in the creation of an extraordinary UV mural for the exhibition "Into the light". It depicts the wild and colourful planet M-31 Ragu and promotes the book “Andromeda. Dead Sky” by Erick Elis, which premiered in July. WOMAI became a patron of the book and, together with the author of the book, we were at the Katowice Book Fair in November.

Our efforts have been recognised. WOMAI co-owner Agnieszka Kulik was selected as a finalist in the 14th edition of the Sukces Pisany Szminką competition. The WOMAI Centre took part in the Tourist Treasures of Małopolska competition. We also received several awards. The WOMAI Centre was a winner in:

  • the 18th edition of the Lodołamacze2023 competition in the Lubelskie, Podkarpackie, Małopolskie and Podlaskie Voivodeships and took 3rd place in the Open Market category,
  • the 5th edition of the "Family-friendly place with children" plebiscite and received the statuette "An exceptionally family-friendly place with children",
  • for 2022 in the category "Best company supporting the Krakow Card for a Family with a Disabled Child" in the 16th edition of the Krakow without Barriers competition..

We had planned to write a short summary text, but as you have read there was a lot going on. Thank you again!

The year 2023 is coming to an end and we at WOMAI have a lot of ideas and surprises, which we will only reveal in 2024. We cordially invite you to the WOMAI Center for Science and Senses for two interactive exhibitions.
